Entering food into Journal:

1. Press the camera button in the upper right hand corner, and snap a picture of your food.

2. If you like this picture, press “use.” Otherwise press “retake.

3. A new item entitled “Waiting for description” will appear in your journal.  Select it.

4. Type in what you ate, with food items separated by commas.

  • For example: hamburger, French fries, coke
  • If food is from food-chain or restaurant franchise include name in front of first food item (e.g., Mcdonald’s Hamburger, large fries, apple pie)
  • Use descriptors such as small, medium, large, etc. for items that may need one (e.g., drinks, smoothies, side dishes)

5. Enter number of servings if greater than 1 (Default is 1 serving).

  • This is usually appropriate for single items like a slice of pizza or two apples.

6. Press Save. If the description has changed, you will be prompted to automatically look up the nutrition information.  Please note, automatically looking up the nutrition information will overwrite any information you have manually entered.

  • The item will appear in your journal with the updated nutrition information
  • It will also be saved to “My food” for quick future use

Entering a food into journal you have eaten in the past:

1. Click on the “My Food” tab at the bottom of the screen.

2. Type food name into search bar or scroll to it directly.

3. If you would like to add 1 serving of the food using the current date/time simply select the item.

4. Choose “OK” to automatically add the food item to your food journal.

5. To add more than one serving or to add a food and specify the date/time click the blue arrow at the end of the row.  This feature is useful if you forgot to add the food during your meal or prefer to add everything at the end of the day.

6. Enter the new serving size and/or date and time.

Editing nutrition information manually

1. If you think we did not give you an accurate estimate for a particular food, simply select the food in your journal.

2. Press “Edit.

2. Choose the nutrition field you wish to edit.

3. Enter New Value. Everything will automatically update.

Choosing which nutrient to be tracked in your Journal

1. For quick reference, you can see daily totals for a single nutrient in “My Journal“.  The default is calories, but you can easily change this by selecting the “More” tab at the bottom right of your screen.

3. Choose which nutrient you want the journal to track.  The “Summary” tab will still track all nutrient values.

  • If you want to turn off the alert when we do not find one of your food items, change “Alert no food matches” to “OFF.”
